Alibag, also spelled Alibaug, is a short ferry ride from Mumbai's Gateway of India. Forsyth's Homes has three very different homes there: Majaza, a large full-service villa in Chondi; Elanza, a three-bedroom home in the same compound; and Waterfront Residences, four apartments beside a lake on the edge of town.
Majaza sleeps up to sixteen guests in eight bedrooms, each with its own sitting area, around a double-height great hall. There is a large pool and a jacuzzi, a tennis court, two padel courts, a pickleball court, a football field, a private theatre, a gym, spa rooms and a games room with a poker table. Elanza sits inside Majaza's green compound and has its own kitchen, a bright living and dining room, three bedrooms, a lawn and a verandah. On its own it is self-service: the home is fully equipped and help is a phone call away. Each apartment at Waterfront has four bedrooms, each with a balcony, and takes up to eight guests. Downstairs the gated building has a large shared pool, a games room and a gym. The ferry from the Gateway of India lands at Mandwa jetty. Waterfront is about twelve minutes from the jetty by car. Chondi, where Majaza and Elanza are, is in the green heart of Alibag between the beaches and the hills; Kihim and Awas beaches are about ten minutes from the house. Kolaba Fort can be walked to at low tide from Alibag beach, and Alibag market has the morning fish catch, which the chef at Majaza will cook for lunch.
